Vintage Conditions:
Katnook Odyssey is created from small parcels of premium Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, sourced from the estate’s terra rossa vineyards that consistently produce exceptional fruit with outstanding depth of flavour and firm tannin structures. Coonawarra received good winter rains, which set up the vines well for the growing season. Temperatures during the growing season were warm with minimal heat spikes, the steady temperatures continued through vintage. There was minimal vintage rains, which reduced any pressure of disease.
Oak Maturation: Matured for 18 months in 70% new French oak, this wine displays a seamless blend of rich fruit and extended oak maturation.
Colour: Medium crimson.
Nose: This cabernet sauvignon greets the wine lover with bright, aromatic notes. Red and purple fruits, such as plum and blackberries abound. There is a backbone of spices adding complexity to the aromatics, the wine shows all the hallmarks of the region from which it has come from.
Palate: The palate is bright, fresh and vibrant yet full and supple. Flavours of satsuma plum, raspberries and cassis are supported by supple, yet defined tannins and quintessential cabernet sauvignon structure, spices and hints of cedar finish off the lovely long palate. The wine shows great tension, providing an insight to its potential longevity.
